Training & Certificates – General

The X-treme Smile training courses are designed for professionals who want to start or further develop their skills in cosmetic dental care and tooth gems.

At the moment, we offer training in the following areas:

Teeth Whitening Course

During our teeth whitening course, you learn how to work professionally and responsibly with whitening products and a professional whitening lamp.

Topics include:

• different types of tooth discolouration;
• whitening gels and how they work;
• working with a professional whitening lamp;
• intake and client assessment;
• treatment protocols;
• sensitivity and possible reactions;
• hygiene and safe working practices;
• assessing results and managing realistic expectations;
• recognising when it is better not to treat.

We also have a teeth whitening refresher course coming soon. This is specifically intended for professionals who completed their training elsewhere but have since realised that certain areas of their knowledge could be improved or that they do not yet feel confident with every part of the treatment.

This means you do not necessarily have to repeat a complete beginners’ course. Instead, you can refresh, supplement and deepen the knowledge you already have.

Tooth Gem Courses

Our Tooth Gem courses focus on the professional application of tooth gems and dental jewellery.

Topics include:

• preparing the tooth;
• working with Blue Etch, Primer and bonding;
• positioning tooth gems;
• correct curing;
• finishing;
• hygiene;
• aftercare;
• common practical problems and how to prevent them.

We also have several Tooth Gem masterclasses coming soon. These are intended for professionals who have already completed basic training and want to further develop, expand or specialise their techniques.

Our Tooth Gem training programme will therefore continue to grow for both beginners and experienced professionals.

Teeth Polishing Course

We also offer teeth polishing as a separate training course.

This course is separate from our Tooth Gem training and focuses specifically on the professional polishing of teeth.

For beginners and experienced professionals

Depending on the course, you can start without previous experience or use the training to build on knowledge you already have.

Our programme therefore includes not only foundation courses, but increasingly also advanced training, masterclasses and refresher courses for professionals who are already working in the industry.

Each course clearly explains what you will learn, which materials you will need and whether any previous knowledge or experience is required.

After completing the course and meeting the relevant requirements, you will receive a certificate.

Yes. You will receive a certificate. After successfully completing a training course with X-treme Smile, you will receive a certificate confirming that you have completed the relevant course and the required components.

The exact requirements depend on the course. For some training courses, the certificate can be issued immediately after completion. For others, a practical assignment or assessment may be required first.

For example, our Tooth Gem training may include a practical assessment as part of the certification process. We believe a certificate should not only show that you have completed the theory, but also that you have sufficiently mastered the key techniques.

What does the certificate mean?

The certificate confirms that you have successfully completed an X-treme Smile training course.

It is important to distinguish between a course certificate and a statutory professional qualification. An X-treme Smile certificate is not a BIG registration and does not automatically make you a dentist, dental hygienist or another legally protected healthcare professional.

Which treatments you are allowed to offer after completing a course always depends on:

• the treatment itself;
• the products and equipment you use;
• any professional qualifications you already hold;
• the laws and regulations in the country where you work.

During our training courses, we therefore also pay attention to the boundaries of the treatment and to situations in which it is better not to treat a client or to advise them to see a dentist.

CRKBO-registered training provider

X-treme Smile is registered with the CRKBO (Central Register for Short Vocational Education in the Netherlands).

Our qualifying vocational training courses are therefore offered VAT-exempt. This means that 21% Dutch VAT is not charged on the course fee.

A certificate should represent quality

We believe a certificate should have real value. For courses that include a practical component, we may therefore first assess whether you have sufficiently mastered the technique taught.

If a practical assignment is not yet satisfactory, this does not mean that you have failed the entire course. We will explain what needs to be improved, after which you can practise and resubmit or repeat the relevant assessment.

The aim is not to issue a certificate as quickly as possible, but to make sure you can start working professionally with sufficient knowledge and confidence.

How you receive your certificate depends on how you complete the training course.

Live training

If you attend a live X-treme Smile training course and successfully complete the required components, you will receive your certificate on the spot.

This means you leave the training with your certificate in hand.

Online training

If you complete a course online, you will receive your certificate digitally by email once you have met all the requirements for that particular course.

For courses that include a practical assignment or assessment, the certificate will only be issued after this part has been successfully completed.

For example, with a Tooth Gem course, a practical placement video may first need to be assessed. If it meets the required standard, you will then receive your certificate. If something still needs improvement, you will receive feedback and can resubmit the relevant part.

Check your details

For online training, the certificate is sent to the email address registered with us. Make sure your details are correct and check your spam or junk folder if you cannot find the email.

Yes. If you have lost your certificate, you can request a replacement certificate from X-treme Smile.

Please contact us and provide as much information as possible, such as:

• your full name;
• the email address you used when registering for the course;
• which training course you completed;
• approximately when you completed the course.

This allows us to check our records and verify that the certificate was previously issued to you.

Cost of a replacement certificate

There is a fee for searching our records, verifying your training details and preparing a new certificate.

The fee is €29.95.

How you receive the replacement certificate depends on your location:

Address in the Netherlands → physical certificate sent by registered post. The €29.95 fee includes registered shipping.

Address outside the Netherlands → certificate sent digitally by email. The €29.95 fee is charged as an administration and replacement fee.

This is based on the delivery address, not on the language in which you completed the course or use our website.

Have your details changed?

If your surname, company name or email address has changed since you completed the course, please also provide the details you were registered under at the time.

This makes it easier for us to locate your training records.

Yes. You can follow training without owning a business at X-treme Smile. You do not need to be registered with the Chamber of Commerce or already have your own salon before starting a course.

Our training courses are also suitable for people who want to retrain, explore a new professional direction or gain knowledge and experience before starting their own business.

Learn first, start later

Many students complete a course first and decide afterwards how they want to continue.

For example, you may choose to:

• start your own salon or business later;
• add the treatment to your existing work;
• work for another salon;
• continue developing your skills before starting professionally.

For beginner courses, we therefore do not expect you to already own a business or have years of experience.

Our training courses are VAT-exempt

X-treme Smile is registered with the CRKBO (Central Register for Short Vocational Education in the Netherlands). Our qualifying vocational training courses are therefore offered VAT-exempt.

This is particularly convenient if you do not yet have your own business, as you do not pay 21% Dutch VAT on the course fee that you would otherwise not be able to reclaim as a private individual.

The course price is therefore the amount you pay for the training, without an additional 21% VAT being added.

Ordering professional products after your training

If you do not yet have a VAT number but have successfully completed a relevant X-treme Smile training course, your certificate can be used to demonstrate your professional background when a professional account needs to be reviewed manually.

Additional legal requirements may apply to certain products. A training certificate does not replace a BIG registration or another professional qualification where this is legally required for a specific product or treatment.

You can complete your training first and then decide whether and how you want to start working professionally.

Thanks to our CRKBO registration, our qualifying vocational training courses are VAT-exempt, so you do not pay 21% Dutch VAT on the course even if you do not yet own a business.

Yes. After successfully completing many of our courses, you can start working professionally, provided you stay within the scope of the treatment and comply with the legislation that applies where you work.

Our courses have been reviewed against the Dutch BIG Act and relevant Dutch legislation. We teach the professional knowledge, practical skills, hygiene procedures and treatment boundaries needed to carry out the treatments responsibly.

Teeth whitening within the European Union

For teeth whitening, important product rules apply throughout the European Union.

Under EU cosmetics legislation:

≤0.1% hydrogen peroxide, present or released → cosmetic category and not restricted by EU cosmetics law to dental practitioners

>0.1% up to 6% hydrogen peroxide, present or released → dental practitioner involvement is legally required

Products containing or releasing more than 0.1% and up to 6% hydrogen peroxide may only be sold to dental practitioners. The first use of each treatment cycle must be carried out by a dental practitioner or under their direct supervision where an equivalent level of safety is ensured. These products may not be used on anyone under 18.

The percentage refers not only to hydrogen peroxide added directly to a product, but also to hydrogen peroxide released by other ingredients or mixtures.

In the Netherlands, the NVWA explicitly confirms that beauty professionals and whitening salons may use products that contain or release no more than 0.1% hydrogen peroxide.

Individual EU countries may have additional professional requirements, so local legislation should always be checked.

Tooth Gems

After completing a Tooth Gem course, you can start with the non-invasive cosmetic application of Tooth Gems to intact tooth enamel, provided this is permitted under the legislation of the country where you work.

Our training remains within the cosmetic scope. It does not teach you to drill or grind teeth, remove tooth tissue or make dental diagnoses.

Cosmetic teeth polishing

Our Cosmetic Teeth Polishing course is limited to superficial cosmetic polishing of intact teeth and the reduction of superficial staining.

It does not include:

• calculus removal;
• subgingival cleaning;
• treatment of gum disease;
• grinding or removal of tooth tissue;
• treatment or correction of dental restorations;
• dental diagnosis.

For this treatment, you must be properly trained and competent. If you have not received appropriate training and do not have sufficient knowledge and practical competence, you should not perform the treatment independently.

Working outside the Netherlands

We train students from many different countries. It is unfortunately not possible for us to research and guarantee the professional legislation of every country in which a student may later work.

What we can do is teach you the skills, treatment protocols, hygiene, product knowledge and professional boundaries required to perform the treatment responsibly.

If you work outside the Netherlands, you are responsible for checking whether your country requires additional qualifications, registrations, licences or other conditions.

For English-speaking students who work in the Netherlands, the same Dutch conditions apply as to our Dutch-speaking students. The language of the course does not change the legislation.

After an X-treme Smile course, you can often start working professionally relatively quickly:

Teeth whitening → EU rules distinguish between ≤0.1% and >0.1%–6% H₂O₂ present or released
Tooth Gems → non-invasive cosmetic application to intact enamel
Cosmetic teeth polishing → superficial polishing only and only when properly trained and competent
